Unless very carefully packed, glass furniture and glassware are liable to suffer damage during shipment.

Ideally glass tops or shelves should be detached from the furniture and be packed into reinforced corrugated cardboard boxes. Wardrobe boxes are ideal as they are suitable large and strong. If such boxes are unavailable then you could cut open cartons to get flat sheets of cardboard that you can use to wrap the tops in.

To pack more than one top into the same package remember to insert sheets of corrugated board in between to prevent them from knocking against each other. Any vacant space should be filled up with wadding, Styrofoam pellets or moving pads. Secure the entire package with strong adhesive tape to ensure the articles do not move about.

After packing stand the package on its edge in an upright position and never flat or diagonally to lessen the chance of inadvertent damage.

Even though a little troublesome you should detach glass doors and pack them securely with corrugated cardboard as suggested for table tops. Be sure to remove the door handles as otherwise they could act a pressure points to result in breakage.

If you are thinking about moving furniture with a lot of inbuilt glass that cannot be easily removed, it is critical that they be well-protected. Any shelves not securely-attached should be removed as these could move during transit and cause damage. It is not essential to remove knobs unless they are built such that they could move and break the glass.

Make liberal use of furniture pads and affix them to the furniture with adhesive tape. Remember that all care exercised in pre-packing will come to nought if the item is not carefully loaded on to the truck and kept away from other pieces that could potentially move and collide with your furniture and break it; using bedding to cushion these items is a good idea.

Packing glassware is simpler but somewhat tedious as each article needs to be pre-packed in butcher’s paper and put away in cardboard boxes padded with Styrofoam peanuts. Make liberal use of cardboard dividers.

The golden rule to follow while pre-packing glass items is to pack them separately using plenty of padding and corrugated cardboard boxes or sheets. Ensure your removalists Sydney exercise due care while pre-packing and you will be saved from the heartbreak of damage later on.
